Regina Franklin-Basye, a Wichita, Kansas native made Dallas her new home after graduating from Wichita State University, completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration. She later graduated from Texas Woman’s University, where she earned a Master of Science Degree in Community Health. She earned a certification in Thanatology – the study of Death, Dying and Bereavement, from the Association ofDeath Education and Counseling. She is currently a seminary student at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Her goal is to complete Elders Orders in the United Methodist Church, and to continue working in the field of Pastoral Care as a Chaplain.
Professionally, Regina has worked as a health care administrator in Dallas for nearly fifteen years, primarily in rehabilitation and long term care settings, managing over 100 patients, and 200 patient beds. She later accepted a highly visible health care public relations position with the Texas Health Care Association in Austin, where she coordinated all communications and media activities for over 1,000 member facilities. During her tenure at THCA, Regina assisted in the development of a grass roots lobbying training program, and also served as a lobbyist during the 76th Legislative Session. Regina is currently the Bereavement Care Specialist at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. She also contracts with churches and other organizations, teaching a "grief recovery" course for members who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Regina is the Founder and President of "Remembering Mom: The Barbara FranklinFoundation", supporting adult women who have experienced the death of a mother. She founded the organization one year after experiencing the death of her mother, Barbara. Living through the vexatious experience of mother-loss, she later decided to assist other women who had also experienced this same devastating loss.
After hosting the first "Remembering Mom Luncheon Celebration" on May 8, 2004, the anniversary weekend of her mother's death (and the day before Mother's Day), numerous women across the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex reached out, searching for support during their grief journey. Dallas media outlets provided superb coverage of the event, and from that experience, the idea of a non-profit organization began. Regina feels it is very important for women to feel supported before, during and after their loss. It is her goal for the organization to provide services for their members as they work through the labyrinth of grief and loss. Finding moments to celebrate and REMEMBER fond memories of their mother is equally important.
Regina's hobbies include personal fitness training, antique and jewelry shopping, traveling and spending leisure time with her family. Regina and her husband, Raymond are the proud parents of daughter, Regan Alexis, and a son, Raymond Alex.
Regina was awarded the "Administrator Achievement Award" from Integrated Health Services, Nominated for the "Caring Spirit Award" from the American Cancer Society, Dallas Metro Market, The "Phenomenal Woman" Award from Chlorox, ABC Radio, (2008 and 2009), and the "Phenomenal Woman" Award – City of Dallas, Parks and Recreation Division. She is the 2009 recipient of the Rev. John Elliott Memorial Scholarship Award in Fort Worth, Texas.
She is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the International Multiple Myeloma Foundation, the Association of Death Education and Counseling, and the Attending Clergy Association of Dallas. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
